ACE COMBAT 8 HOTAS, Controller, Deadzone & FOV Guide
Check ACE COMBAT 8 flight-stick compatibility, NEO mode and driver setup, then troubleshoot drift, gunsight preferences, controller inputs and ultrawide FOV.

ACE COMBAT 8 has documented support for specific flight sticks. That does not establish plug-and-play support for every HOTAS. Match the exact device edition, platform and operating mode before changing bindings or blaming a mission's flight behavior.
Reviewed October 19 against the publisher's device list, Thrustmaster documentation and original player discussions. This site has not bench-tested these controllers or measured the game's FOV.
Documented controller compatibility
The Japanese official specification lists these tested combinations:
| Platform | Listed controllers and sticks |
|---|---|
| PS5 | DualSense; ACE COMBAT 8 flight stick for PS5/PS4/Windows PC; T.Flight HOTAS NEO PlayStation/PC edition |
| Xbox Series X/S | Xbox Wireless Controller; T.Flight HOTAS NEO Xbox/PC edition |
| Steam PC | Steam Controller, DualSense, Xbox Wireless Controller; the above AC8 flight stick and both NEO editions |
A device name containing PS4 does not mean AC8 has a PS4 game release. Other sticks, adapters and separate pedals require their own compatibility evidence; support for a base does not prove that every accessory or remapping feature works.
T.Flight HOTAS NEO setup
Thrustmaster KB 1904 says AC8 requires NEO mode. On PC, both editions require the TFHT driver to enable that mode: green LED. Without the driver, PC Legacy mode uses a red LED. The documented console NEO indicators are red on the PlayStation edition/PS5 and white on the Xbox edition/Series X/S. LED color must therefore be interpreted with the platform, not by itself.
Use the manufacturer's product page and manual for your exact edition. Follow its driver installation order and native mapping. Save the current configuration before a change, reconnect as instructed, then test one axis at a time. A functioning menu button is not enough to establish correct throttle, yaw and camera input.
Drift, deadzone and unwanted rotation
Our diagnostic sequence separates a device signal problem from a game binding problem:
- At rest: inspect the axis in the manufacturer's control panel or input test. Note whether it returns to center without touching it.
- Across travel: move slowly through the range. Look for a sudden jump, reversed axis or missing travel; do not try to conceal these with an extreme deadzone.
- With one input path: disconnect unused game controllers and temporarily close optional remapping utilities. Compare one known configuration before adding another translation layer.
- In a repeatable flight: verify roll, pitch, yaw, throttle and camera separately. If raw input is stable but the game turns, review duplicate bindings, axis direction and the selected device mode.
- Tune only available settings: adjust a deadzone or sensitivity only where your actual device/software exposes it. Change one value, note the original, and retain the smallest adjustment that resolves the observed issue without swallowing deliberate input. There is no verified universal percentage here.
For NEO axes that jump directly between extremes, Thrustmaster's calibration article provides a hardware procedure. It explicitly separates PC/PlayStation instructions from NEO X on Xbox. Follow the linked procedure for your platform; do not copy a button sequence from another model.
Gunsight and PSM checks
Players in the Mission 15 guns-only thread suggest Gunsight B when the default sight feels difficult to track. Treat it as a preference to compare, not a damage upgrade. Use the same aircraft, camera and attack pass to judge whether your burst actually connects.
If basic flight works but PSM does not, use the PSM eligibility and input guide. Aircraft eligibility, entry state and high-G/brake bindings are separate from recognizing the controller. For a practical aiming exercise, see Mission 15.
Ultrawide resolution versus field of view
The official Japanese specification lists 3840 × 1600 UWQHD+ with upscaling under its high-spec target. That establishes a documented ultrawide configuration, not an adjustable FOV slider or support for every aspect ratio.
The original Steam FOV discussion describes an image that displays on ultrawide while still feeling too tightly framed. Replies also report narrow framing on 16:9. These are player observations, not a measured FOV value or an official fix announcement.
For a useful comparison, keep the same aircraft, camera view, scene and display scaling. Record resolution/aspect ratio and compare available camera views. Check whether the problem is stretching, cropping, HUD placement or the camera's framing before changing settings. Switching resolution is not a guaranteed FOV fix. This guide does not provide an unverified executable patch or promise a slider absent from the reviewed documentation.
If the game crashes or reports Error 01 rather than misreading input, continue to the PC crash guide. Record the exact device, driver, platform, game version and reproducible symptom before combining unrelated fixes.
Does AC8 support every HOTAS that worked in AC7?
The publisher lists specific tested hardware. Previous-game compatibility does not establish this game's native mapping, and an unlisted device is not automatically proven incompatible either.
Which deadzone and FOV numbers should I copy?
No universal measured values are established here. Diagnose the input signal and compare only settings exposed by your current setup. Keep the original configuration so each change can be reversed.
