ACE COMBAT 8 PC Crashing & Error 01: What to Try

Troubleshoot ACE COMBAT 8 PC crashes and Error 01 with official memory guidance, driver and file checks, reversible steps, and a useful crash-report checklist.

If ACE COMBAT 8 closes with Error 01, start with the crash context, graphics driver and available memory—not a promised universal fix. The October 16 official notice offers a temporary memory workaround for some crashes; it does not announce that all crashes are fixed.

Last reviewed: October 18, 2026. This is a dated guide to official notices plus clearly labeled troubleshooting steps, not a live incident monitor or a game-tested fix. For ST-3100001, matchmaking or disconnects while the game stays open, use the online-errors guide.

What Error 01 does and does not tell you

Save the full message, including any “UE-Live,” memory or graphics-driver text, and note whether it happens during launch, campaign loading, a cutscene or gameplay. Error 01 alone is not enough to identify one root cause. The October 16 notice says the team is investigating multiple causes, including issues unrelated to memory.

Our triage guide:

What happenedStart here
Game closes to desktop or shows Error 01Record the exact trigger, then follow the checks below
A memory-allocation warning appearsReview available storage and the official memory workaround
Windows itself freezes, restarts or shows a stop codeRecord that system-level message separately; a game crash label does not diagnose the whole PC
Game stays open but online play returns an ST codeUse the online guide; do not treat every connection failure as Error 01

First checks for a PC crash

  1. Record a baseline. Note the game build, Windows version, GPU driver version, installed RAM, SSD free space and the exact place the crash happens. Change one item at a time so you can tell what helped.
  2. Read the driver warning, if shown. The September 29 Product Notice recommends the graphics driver indicated at launch and at least 16 GB of free space on the game's SSD, with Windows virtual memory enabled. Obtain drivers from your GPU manufacturer; do not assume a version number copied from another PC applies to yours.
  3. Verify the installation. Follow Steam's file-check procedure: restart the PC, open Steam Library, right-click the game, select Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Let it finish before testing. This checks installed files; it does not prove a memory or driver problem is fixed.
  4. Repeat the same trigger. As an editorial isolation step, close optional overlays or capture tools you added and compare the same scene. Record which applications were running. Keep a note of any custom launch options so you can undo your own changes.
  5. If it still crashes, follow the memory branch below or prepare a report. A single successful launch is useful evidence, not proof that longer sessions are stable.

Official memory workaround

The October 16 Product Notice ② reports fewer memory-related crashes in internal tests with about 48 GB or more of combined RAM and Windows virtual memory. Its temporary guidance is:

Installed RAMVirtual-memory guidance
32 GB RAM16 GB or more
16 GB RAM32 GB or more

This is not a requirement to buy 48 GB of physical RAM, and virtual memory is not GPU VRAM. The notice calls the workaround temporary, acknowledges excessive memory usage and says other crash causes remain under investigation. It supplies no universal guarantee or sizing rule for every RAM configuration.

The older 16 GB free-space recommendation is not a promise that a new 32 GB paging file will fit. Check free space on the drive actually hosting the paging file and leave room for Windows and game updates. If a system-managed file already provides enough capacity, recording that fact is more useful than blindly replacing it with a smaller fixed value.

Check or change Windows virtual memory

These Windows navigation steps explain how to inspect the setting; the AC8 target values come from the notice above. Microsoft documents the paging-file controls in System Properties.

  1. Save your work and close the game. Search Windows for View advanced system settings.
  2. In System Properties, open Advanced → Performance Settings → Advanced → Virtual memory → Change.
  3. Record the current settings first: automatic management, selected drive, current allocation and any custom sizes. Do not select “No paging file.”
  4. If you choose to test a custom allocation, clear automatic management, select a drive with sufficient space, then select Custom size. The fields use MB: 16 GB = 16,384 MB; 32 GB = 32,768 MB for this conversion. Set an initial allocation consistent with the relevant guidance and a maximum at least as large; do not reduce an already larger allocation merely to copy the example.
  5. Choose Set, confirm the dialogs and restart if Windows requests it. Reopen the setting to check what was applied, then test the same crash trigger.

To undo the test, restore the settings you recorded. If you previously used automatic management, re-enable it and apply the change; restart when requested. Do not delete the paging file or game saves as a troubleshooting shortcut.

When the first checks do not help

A memory workaround that fails does not prove the PC is defective. Nor does “Out of video memory” by itself tell you which setting to change. Keep the full message and the before/after result.

Async-compute launch flags, arbitrary driver rollbacks and deleting configuration folders are not established universal fixes by the official notices reviewed here. Avoid stacking several such changes and losing a reproducible baseline. If you already added launch options, save the original text before removing only your own additions for a comparison.

Check the official announcement feed for notices newer than this review. A plan to release an update is not evidence that a fix has shipped. After an update, record its build and retest the same scene rather than assuming an old workaround is still necessary.

Record a reproducible crash

The October 2 official crash-report thread requests PC specifications, Windows/system version, the error and reproduction steps, and other running applications. This expanded checklist helps keep a report specific:

Game build and platform:
Windows version:
CPU / GPU / driver version / RAM:
Game drive (SSD/HDD) and free space:
Virtual-memory setting before / after:
Full error message:
Mission or screen, and exact steps to trigger it:
Frequency (for example, 2 failures in 3 attempts):
Other running applications and custom launch options:
One change tested and its result:

Use the official thread if you choose to submit a report. Remove personal information from public screenshots. This website does not collect crash reports or account details.

Is there a guaranteed Error 01 fix?

No. The reviewed official notice describes several possible crash causes and a temporary memory mitigation. Use the exact message and reproduction steps to decide which branch to investigate.

Does 48 GB mean I need 48 GB of RAM or VRAM?

No. The notice refers to RAM plus Windows virtual memory, not 48 GB of physical RAM and not graphics-card memory. The two RAM-specific examples above are temporary guidance, not new hardware specifications.

Will these Windows settings fix PS5 or Xbox crashes?

These steps are for the PC/Steam version. Do not apply Windows page-file or GPU-driver instructions to a console. Use platform-specific notices and record the console error separately.
