ACE COMBAT 8 Skins: Unlocks, Wingmen & Shadow Issues
Check ACE COMBAT 8 skin availability by mode, customize wingmen with Aircraft Sets, and check missing Shadow skins without assuming every unlock transfers.

Start with the exact skin, aircraft variant and game mode. A skin visible in one menu does not prove that the same item is usable in Campaign, Online and on every wingman. Separate acquiring a reward from selecting it on an eligible aircraft.
Reviewed October 19. Official availability statements are identified below; menu and Shadow-skin behavior comes from player accounts, not site gameplay tests.
Official mode limits
The publisher's edition notes list the F-4E Mobius Squadron and F/A-18C Team Zvezda skins for Online and for Campaign after all missions are completed. Tasha's avatar costume and Scarlet Missile Smoke are Online-only. These named items do not establish a rule for every skin in the game.
For a pass reward, check the exact item on the current ACE PASS track, its unlocked/claimed state and its applicable aircraft. Do not buy the same reward again merely because you cannot find it in a different mode.
Campaign and wingman customization
In the Aircraft Sets discussion, players describe post-campaign skin access and assigning customized Aircraft Sets to wingmen. Their replies caution that the visual set does not establish a changed wingman weapon loadout or working parts.
Our menu-check sequence:
- Confirm the campaign-completion state and whether the selected sortie permits the aircraft you want.
- Select the exact aircraft variant. For example, an F/A-18C item should not be assumed to fit an F/A-18E.
- Inspect the skin and emblem in the aircraft customization/set menu, save the intended set, then select it for the relevant pilot.
- Reopen the selection to verify it persisted. Check weapons separately before launching; appearance alone is not a loadout check.
- If the option is missing, record the mode, item name and locked-condition text before changing anything else.
Menu names can vary by language. The source is a player discovery, so use it to locate the option rather than as proof that every cosmetic transfers between modes.
Named aces and Shadow skins
The same players associate Shadow skins with the relevant aircraft's Shadow kills and Assault Records. They distinguish replayable named-ace entries from campaign-dependent record state. Use the 83-entry catalogue to check the actual record and its mission conditions; a website checkbox is only your local note.
The Su-57 Shadow unlock is unresolved here. An October 19 Steam thread reports a missing skin even after Mission 18 and Mission 28 in one campaign. Reddit replies also describe unsuccessful attempts. We found no official confirmation of a skin bug or universal repair in the reviewed sources. Starting the whole campaign again is not a guaranteed fix.
Before replaying, compare the Shadow 24 condition and Mission 28 collection notes. Record whether a kill was made in Campaign or Free Mission and whether the final Assault Record appeared. A completed record and an awarded cosmetic are separate observations.
Missing reward checklist
Keep a small record of the exact skin name, variant, platform, game version, mode, campaign completion, prerequisite records and final reward/menu state. If the item still does not appear, preserve that evidence rather than deleting saves or spending currency on a guess.
For online aircraft access and upgrade resources, continue to online progression and blueprints. For campaign aircraft purchases, use the separate aircraft tree.
Does every online skin work in Campaign?
The reviewed official notes establish availability for specific named rewards, not every online level or pass skin. Check the item's own mode restrictions; do not infer universal transfer from one working cosmetic.
Does an S rank automatically unlock all Shadow skins?
The cited player discussion focuses on relevant kills and records, not a universal S-rank rule. Verify the specific record and reward separately. We do not publish an unverified all-skins checklist.
