For Mission 28, A Thousand Points of Light, a large destruction score alone may still leave a bonus-dependent result. Review the score gap and the final-phase time separately. This page combines an attributed reference with original arithmetic and a debrief workflow; it does not claim a tested optimal route.

Review the final phase as its own problem

StormXTS identifies the Shadows encounter as a major time bottleneck and recommends preserving SASM for fighters, replenishing before the final section and taking useful openings rather than following one evasive target indefinitely. These are the author's strategy suggestions, not our measured optimal loadout.

A useful original debrief separates the sortie into an earlier scoring phase and the later finishing phase. Record your destruction score and elapsed time when the late encounter begins, then the actual final result. This helps distinguish entering the phase with too little score from entering well prepared but taking too long to finish.

Do not conclude that an early-phase change is an improvement solely because it produces more points. If it leaves you without useful ammunition or leads to a much slower finish, the overall attempt may be worse. Compare whole runs with the same assumptions instead of selecting the best moment from each.

Find out whether your run depends on time

Subtract your destruction score from the reference target. A positive gap is the amount of bonus the run would need under that model. Compare this requirement with the maximum listed bonus before trying to optimize individual seconds.

For a hypothetical 100,000 destruction score, 54,000 more points are needed to reach the listed total. The full-bonus scenario produces 157,000, only 3,000 above the reference. A seemingly impressive six-figure destruction score can therefore still depend heavily on preserving the reported time bonus.

At 33:00, this implementation returns 100,000–157,000 for that score. It does not invent a precise bonus just because 33 minutes sits a calculable fraction between the two endpoints. The endpoints do not establish the curve, rounding or all applicable conditions.

By contrast, 160,000 destruction points exceed the listed target even in the zero-time-bonus scenario. That is a result about this reference, not proof that retries or another unknown adjustment cannot affect your actual grade. This tool intentionally never writes “S rank earned.”

Three questions after another A rank

Was the required bonus plausible? If your needed bonus exceeds the listed maximum, investigate destruction score first. If it falls within the available band, the result remains timing-dependent under the reference.

Were the conditions comparable? Separate a no-retry Free Mission attempt from a story-mode attempt or a checkpoint recovery. The diagnostic refuses unsupported cases rather than subtracting a guessed universal penalty.

Did the final phase consume the margin? Note your ammunition and time at the transition. Test one change at a time: preparation, target switching or weapon use. These notes are more actionable than simply recording “got A again.”

Keep actual progress separate from predicted outcomes

Use My Progress to record the actual rank awarded by the game. The linked form can supply the mission name, but does not certify completion or transfer a calculated rank. Keep useful transition-time observations in your notes and export a backup before clearing browser data.

Does the upper end of the range mean I have enough points?

It means the reference permits that upper bound, not that your run received that bonus. A range crossing the target remains uncertain.

Can you calculate the exact checkpoint deduction?

Not from the sources validated for this implementation. No-retry scenarios are the only accepted scope; a retry or unknown retry status is rejected.
