ACE COMBAT 8 Mission 4: Fleet & S-Rank Guide
Plan Mission 4 The Fall of the Numbered Fleets with sourced objectives, score-range examples and a clear separation between fleet combat and Auster hunting.

For Mission 4, The Fall of the Numbered Fleets, plan a fleet strike rather than treating every contact as an equal priority. Keep the score attempt separate from an optional Auster tunnel attempt. This dossier brings together the published briefing, credited community observations and a bounded score check, not a frame-by-frame tested route.
What the official briefing establishes
Bandai Namco's August 2026 preview identifies Newfield Island, two enemy fleets and the Sharks squadron. It describes both air and surface threats, pre-sortie equipment choices and wingman commands. The stated objective is an attack on enemy forces, not protecting those fleets. This is a preview briefing; it does not establish launch-version scoring or a secret-ace trigger.
That distinction matters when deciding what to trust. Use the briefing for the mission premise and the following community table for its narrower numerical scenario. An official link alongside a table does not turn the table into an official scoring formula.
Mission 4 score reference
Source review: 2026-10-13 . No exact game patch is matched. The linked numerical references share one data lineage, not independent verification.
| Reported S-rank total target | 21,000 |
|---|---|
| Maximum reported time bonus | 4,500 |
| Reported decay starts | 11:00 |
| Reported zero-bonus point | 27:50 |
| Tool reference scope | Ace / Free Mission |
| Exact curve inside the interval | Unconfirmed; no linear interpolation |
The score references come from LmanYan95; StormXTS reused that table. They are one numerical lineage. Our diagnostic retains the existing Ace / Free Mission / no-checkpoint-retry scope. The exact patch and in-game boundary rounding are unknown.
Choose the purpose of this sortie
| Your aim | What to keep in view | What this page does not assume |
|---|---|---|
| First successful clear | Mission objectives and survival | Access to a late-game aircraft or parts set |
| Improve a score attempt | Destruction score, result time and remaining objectives | That every extra target is worth a long detour |
| Investigate Auster | Entry direction, the named target and the final record | That a completed tunnel flight alone proves the record unlocked |
For score preparation, StormXTS recommends dealing with optional aircraft before the final TGT and identifies air-to-air specials or urban-area weapons as possible aids. That is the author's guidance, not proof of a uniquely best loadout. Read the linked guide for its complete setup rather than treating this short summary as a replacement.
Our planning suggestion is to choose one reliable air option and one way to handle the surface threats you actually struggle with. A weapon choice should solve an observed problem: repeated turning, missed attacks or a target remaining alive. Do not replace a familiar setup solely because another pilot used an aircraft you have not unlocked.
A practical decision sequence
- Identify the objective before committing to a target. Note whether the contact is part of the active objective, an immediate threat or an optional scoring opportunity. This is a planning distinction, not an invented list of every enemy.
- Clear a manageable area rather than repeatedly crossing the map. Recheck the objective and nearby threats after a group is dealt with. A map sweep is only useful when it leaves you able to finish the required work.
- Review score before a mission-ending action. Do not assume an optional target can still be collected afterward. The relevant decision is whether another attack improves the completed attempt, not whether it makes the HUD number larger for a moment.
- Record the full result. A faster middle section is not necessarily a faster clear. Compare final time, destruction score, retries and actual rank together.
This sequence is our suggested review workflow. It does not assert exact spawn coordinates, a prescribed kill count or a guaranteed completion time.
How much score would the listed bonus need to supply?
At the full reported bonus, the arithmetic break-even point is 21,000 − 4,500 = 16,500 destruction points. This is a property of the reference model, not a certified in-game requirement.
| Hypothetical destruction score | Result time | Reference total | Interpretation within this model |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16,000 | 10:30 | 20,500 | Still 500 below the listed target |
| 17,000 | 10:30 | 21,500 | 500 above the listed target |
| 17,000 | 15:00 | 17,000–21,500 | The range crosses the target; exact bonus is unknown |
| 22,000 | 28:00 | 22,000 | Above the reference without a time bonus |
These are worked examples, not recorded gameplay. For the first row, shaving more time cannot close the model's remaining gap: the maximum listed bonus was already included. For the third row, a wider time window does not justify assuming a linear decay curve. Enter your completed attempt below to see its bounds.
Why Auster is not a guaranteed route here
Piyoko describes flying the island tunnel and recommends a western entry. The linked community wiki instead specifies entering from Anderson Port and excludes the other direction. These reports are not reconciled for a known patch. We therefore do not publish a fixed-direction Auster checklist entry in this pass.
A cautious way to investigate is to record entry side, mode, difficulty, prior-clear state, whether the named aircraft appeared, and the actual post-mission record. Keep that experiment separate from a score attempt you intend to preserve. A failed appearance by itself does not identify which condition was missing.

Mission score range diagnostic
Not tested in-game by this site or matched to a game patch. Limited to the Ace / Free Mission reference. Retry penalties, other modes and difficulties are unsupported. Inside decay, only bounds are shown.
Use My Progress for the rank the game actually awarded. The link fills the mission name only. Keep score diagnosis and collection confirmation separate; neither a calculated total nor a tunnel flight should automatically mark an achievement complete.
Does the official preview confirm the S-rank target?
No. It confirms mission context. The numerical reference is separately attributed community data, without a matched patch or a gameplay test by this site.
Why not combine the tunnel run with every score attempt?
The additional goal can change the risk and route. Choose it deliberately, and do not treat the unresolved entry-direction reports as a guaranteed solution.
