ACE COMBAT 8 Mission 5 S-Rank & Custos Guide
Review Mission 5 community scoring references, keep escort and Custos collection goals separate, and diagnose your score range without inventing a bonus.

For Mission 5, Retaking of Theve, distinguish completing the escort from preserving every LCAC for a Custos attempt. Start with the condition you are trying to satisfy, then review your score. A high hypothetical total does not prove that a collection condition was met.
Separate the escort goal from the score goal
StormXTS recommends prioritizing threats to the fleet, including the initial Mirages and long-range howitzers. Piyoko's Custos account requires the LCACs to survive the landing phase and distinguishes survival from taking no damage. These are brief source summaries, not an independently tested route.
Our suggestion is to note when an escort loss occurs and what you were doing at that moment. This produces a more useful question for the next attempt than simply recording that the score was disappointing. Were you away from the group, busy with another engagement, or unable to finish the current target? Record the observation rather than assuming a cause.
A complete sortie with a missed collection condition should stay in your mission log as the actual result. Do not mark Custos complete merely because the attempt went well in other respects. Conversely, do not discard a useful collection attempt just because it was not your fastest score run.
Mission 5 scoring reference
Source review: 2026-10-13 . No exact game patch is matched. The linked numerical references share one data lineage, not independent verification.
| Reported S-rank total target | 17,500 |
|---|---|
| Maximum reported time bonus | 4,000 |
| Reported decay starts | 11:10 |
| Reported zero-bonus point | 19:00 |
| Tool reference scope | Ace / Free Mission |
| Exact curve inside the interval | Unconfirmed; no linear interpolation |
Work out the bonus dependence
The maximum-bonus subtraction is 17,500 − 4,000 = 13,500. That value is a conditional arithmetic boundary, not a promise that 13,500 destruction points will always earn S. If less bonus is awarded, more destruction score would be needed under this reference.
Suppose a completed flight shows 14,000 destruction points and 11:00 on the result timer. Applying the reported maximum-bonus bracket gives 18,000, or 500 above the listed target. At 15:00, the tool instead returns 14,000–18,000. It cannot calculate which exact value the game awarded inside that interval.
Now consider 13,000 destruction points. Even the listed maximum only reaches 17,000, below the reference. In that scenario, improving time alone cannot close the gap within the published bound. This says nothing about which specific target you missed; finding that requires reviewing the actual attempt.
Make one change per comparison
There is no mandatory aircraft recommendation on this page. Test a change that corresponds to an observed problem: travel between engagements, finishing a threat, or excessive turns. Compare complete flights under similar conditions instead of comparing the fastest phase from one with the best score from another.
Keep the previous result. A new setup that feels powerful is not necessarily more useful if you lose an escort or spend longer recovering position. Your own notes can preserve these trade-offs without pretending to be a universal tier list.
Custos condition and local confirmation
Use the separate card to check the source-reported condition. The site cannot count surviving allies or read your game save. A checkmark means you personally confirmed the actual Assault Record; it does not award a skin or certify a mission grade.
Diagnose the supported reference scenario
Mission score range diagnostic
Not tested in-game by this site or matched to a game patch. Limited to the Ace / Free Mission reference. Retry penalties, other modes and difficulties are unsupported. Inside decay, only bounds are shown.
Select the actual scope honestly. A checkpoint retry, another difficulty or another mode is not silently treated as a no-retry Ace / Free Mission attempt. The original manual target-comparison tool remains available for arithmetic with a target you supply yourself.
Keep the results useful for the next flight
Save the actual Mission 5 result, noting your aim and the point at which the escort situation changed. The linked form prefills only the mission name. Keep the rank and score from the game rather than copying a diagnostic classification.
Is survival the same as a no-damage escort?
Piyoko's account distinguishes them. Our checklist records your confirmed collection entry, not a claim that the entire escort was unharmed.
Will checking Custos also mark the mission S?
No. The ace checklist has separate browser storage and never edits the mission-result log.
See the Custos entry, S-rank explanation and mission library.
