ACE COMBAT 8 Mission 6: Escort & Flamma Guide
Prepare Mission 6 Attack on the Drinwich Airfield with escort priorities, the reported Flamma trigger, HOLD FIRE cautions and bounded score diagnostics.

Mission 6, Attack on the Drinwich Airfield, rewards keeping the escort objective under control rather than abandoning it for a fast opening. For a Flamma attempt, distinguish TGT-marked kills from your total kill count. Later, respect HOLD FIRE markings instead of assuming every surface contact is safe to attack.
Mission flow: escort first, then protect the operation
PowerPyx's walkthrough describes two helicopter groups, Spread 1 and Spread 2, approaching the airfield. Its sequence prioritizes threats to both groups; after landing, an escaping transport and alternating aerial and ground threats require attention. This is a short credited outline, not our independently tested mission script.
Use that outline to decide where your next attack is needed. A repeatable review is to ask which group is exposed, what is directly threatening it, and whether your current attack will leave you able to respond. Do not continue a distant engagement simply because you have already spent time pursuing it.
Mission 6 score reference
Source review: 2026-10-13 . No exact game patch is matched. The linked numerical references share one data lineage, not independent verification.
| Reported S-rank total target | 17,000 |
|---|---|
| Maximum reported time bonus | 3,500 |
| Reported decay starts | 17:20 |
| Reported zero-bonus point | 22:00 |
| Tool reference scope | Ace / Free Mission |
| Exact curve inside the interval | Unconfirmed; no linear interpolation |
The two scoring links share LmanYan95's original table. No exact patch, retry deduction or decay curve has been validated by this site. The score tool accepts only its stated Ace / Free Mission, no-retry scenario; those tool restrictions are not the universal rules for hunting an ace.
Flamma: count the correct target class
Piyoko and Rafly describe at least five destroyed TGT units within the opening three minutes. They do not describe five missiles fired, five arbitrary enemies or a required score total. A run with many ordinary kills can therefore tell you very little about that reported condition.
For your own attempt, a simple tally is more useful than guessing from points. Count confirmed TGT destructions, note when the fifth happens, then separately check whether the named aircraft appeared and whether the game recorded it. A near-boundary attempt is not evidence that the exact cutoff second or rounding has been established.
Do not convert the authors' video timestamps into your own spawn deadline. Position, route and mode can differ, and this site does not inspect your game clock. The checklist stores your final confirmation, not an automatic judgment that the opening condition was met.
Protecting both groups without losing the opening
| Observation during a run | Practical next question | What to record afterward |
|---|---|---|
| One escort group is under pressure | Is my current target helping that group? | Position and objective state when pressure started |
| The fifth TGT is taking too long | Am I chasing a non-TGT or repeatedly missing? | Confirmed TGT count and time, not assumed kills |
| The opening was fast but the mission failed later | Did I stop following the escort objective? | The actual failure point, independent of ace appearance |
| A previous attempt succeeded with a different route | Which one change can I reproduce? | Keep the other equipment and difficulty comparable |
These questions are our review method. They do not add a hidden trigger or claim to identify a lost helicopter from a final score. An efficient opening that loses the mission is not a successful collection run.
HOLD FIRE: change the attack method, not just the target
StormXTS warns that poorly aligned missile shots near HOLD FIRE targets can cause mission failure. Use the marking as a reason to pause and verify the intended target and firing angle, not as a prompt to release a wide attack into the whole area.
A controlled attempt should distinguish three errors: the wrong target was selected, the weapon went somewhere unintended, or the player misunderstood the objective. Record which one you observed. A score calculator cannot tell those situations apart, and more destruction points do not reverse a failed objective.
For troubleshooting, change one input at a time. Recheck the label, make the next attack from a clearer angle, and compare the actual outcome. Do not claim a weapon is unsafe everywhere based on one poorly positioned shot, or that a particular aircraft is required without supporting evidence.
Score scenarios for this mission
The maximum-bonus break-even calculation is 17,000 − 3,500 = 13,500 destruction points. Treat it as a numerical scenario, not a promise.
| Hypothetical destruction score | Time | Tool's reference total | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13,000 | 17:00 | 16,500 | Below the target even with the listed maximum |
| 14,000 | 17:00 | 17,500 | Above the listed target in the full-bonus scenario |
| 14,000 | 19:00 | 14,000–17,500 | Exact time award is unknown; the outcome spans the target |
| 14,000 | 22:10 | 14,000 | No time bonus in the reference scenario |
The same destruction score can need very different follow-up questions. The first row suggests a score gap within the model. The third does not support an exact prediction. None of the rows validates the Flamma trigger, the survival of an escort or the absence of a penalty.

Mission score range diagnostic
Not tested in-game by this site or matched to a game patch. Limited to the Ace / Free Mission reference. Retry penalties, other modes and difficulties are unsupported. Inside decay, only bounds are shown.
Save the game-awarded result in My Progress. In your notes, distinguish the opening TGT count, escort outcome and any HOLD FIRE problem. Confirm Flamma separately in the ace checklist only after checking the actual record.
Does five destroyed enemies always meet Flamma's condition?
The cited condition concerns TGT-marked units. The site cannot infer the target classes from your destruction score or certify the game's trigger.
Can I use a Veteran ace-hunting run in the score diagnostic?
Not as a supported score scenario. The collection sources discuss Veteran or higher, while this diagnostic is deliberately limited to its Ace / Free Mission reference.
Continue with Mission 7 or read the collection guide before combining goals.
